Meme

Awais tagged me, and now I’m part of a blog-meme. So, here goes…

8 peculiar things about me:

  1. I’m addicted to lip balm.
  2. I never cut my nails. I always file them.
  3. When I was a kid, I used to believe that I was the Ruler of Hell. I still call myself that.
  4. I have named my stuffed animals and other important stuff (iPod, camera, etc.) after characters from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I also talk to them.
  5. I hate reading crumpled newspapers and magazines. My parents aren’t even allowed to touch the newspaper until I finish reading it.
  6. I detest Jane Austen’s books. Pride and Prejudice, in particular, was atrocious. (Quite a few liberal arts majors have tried to point out to me why it’s a masterpiece, but I prefer being called an ignorant moron instead.)
  7. For some strange reason, all guys I fall for later turn out to be:
    a) ethical vegetarians,
    b) extroverts,
    c) left-handed,
    d) liberals, and
    e) obstinate.
  8. I love listening to rap music. I listen to it even while studying. I also have a “rap journal” in which I write all my rhymes. (No one’s allowed to read ‘em, though.)

I tag: people who love cucumber sandwiches.

Update: Kishore says that he likes cucumber sandwiches too. Yay! (Looks like no one else does, though. Sad.)

Eh, you’re never gonna fall for me. I’m none of those 5 things you mentioned. Hit me when you’re bored of those though. :P

What is your iPod called, again? I remember reading about it in one post but now I’ve forgotten. I hate reading crumpled newspapers too. I almost always end up not reading the newspaper on rainy days because the newspaper guy just tosses them inside and they get all wet and crumpled. I hate that.

Peculiarly peculiar things. Like those reading newspapers. I was on the other hand accused of not leaving the Bhelpuri paper and reading from it.

@ish:

Oh, I most certainly will do that when I’m bored of those. :P

His name is Zaphod. Jeez, I hate it when my newspaper gets all wet and crumpled on rainy days too. It’s so damn annoying!

@Moumita:

lol. That’s a pretty interesting quirk. I don’t know anyone else who does that!

P.S. I love Bhelpuri. :)

Nothing peculiar except for 3 and 5! :D

@Akshay:

So I scored 25%, eh? This means that I can’t even do simple things (like doing a tag) properly. Hey, does that count as a peculiarity? :D

Toenails? You ARE weird (the good kind, though – in case you thought being weird was bad)!

@Kishore:

Jeez! Fingernails, not toenails. :D

Being weird rocks, though!

Lol! Thanks for the clarification. Doesn’t make you any less weird though – congratulations!

@Kishore:

Thank you. :P

me likey, you hate jane austen? i hate wordsworth, coelho, rand, you name it… (i haven’t actually read much of ‘rand’, couldn’t make myself go past the first page of ‘the fountainhead’, ugh, bloody metaphors!! i HATE metaphors!!)

hitchhikers galaxy is – (any word that isn’t as boring as ‘amazing’, i mean how many times does anyone stop after reading a book with their mouth open in ‘amazement’? you just feel good good…not ‘amazed’, yet everyone keeps using that bloody adjective…)

btw i am in love with someone who names her stuff…sigh…

*pauses for a moment, thinks -”what made me start writing this commentbleh

ok where were we? oh yes…the hating…(yeah we weren’t actually there but let’s skip the amazing part)

now…let’s observe, if you were a typical ‘hot girl’ and i was a ‘typical guy’. i’d have googled ‘jane austen’ and found similar authors and ‘claimed’ to hate them to start a conversation (i don’t know anything about Austen and have no idea if these few that I’ve named are similar) but that’s just an observation…and everytime i see a blog post that says ‘i like x’ or ‘i hate x’ there will ALWAYS be a lot of ‘me too’ comments, and then i look at the ‘me too’ comments by males, and it always makes me wonder “what does this guy want?” because seriously…I’ve come to terms with the fact that my fellow ‘man’ is probably always lying…and my fellow female is probably always being an idiot and falling for my fellow man’s lie, so you see, my ‘fellows’ are pretty whackable-on-the-back-of-the-head people….but that’s me,and i could be wrong

and now this looks like another ‘me too’ comment because no woman has to write in her blog about her considering men to be dogs…agh.

(sometimes i don’t feel like blogging, just….commenting, starting today, maybe…)

@angad:

Yes, I hate Jane Austen. Coelho sucks, too. But I love Rand. And, no, the writers you mentioned aren’t exactly similar to Jane Austen.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that my fellow ‘man’ is probably always lying…and my fellow female is probably always being an idiot and falling for my fellow man’s lie, so you see, my ‘fellows’ are pretty whackable-on-the-back-of-the-head people….but that’s me,and i could be wrong
Oh, well, you might be wrong. But when you’ve got such an interesting perspective, who cares if you’re right or not? The world doesn’t need more of that “right” crap.

Thanks for your comment — I enjoyed reading it. :)

oh cool…yeah anytime. bleh. :-P

Sorry if I’m butting in:

This discussion sounded so very Wilde. Especially the part about the who-cares-about-the-right-and-wrong-as-long-as-it’s-interesting part.

Never read Austen, but I love Wordsworth and disagree with Rand in places, but enjoy reading her. Coelho’s worth a favourable mention just for his Alchemist and Warrior of Light, though his other works tend to be lullabies.

(And can you please delete the previous one, Vasudha?)

@Kishore:

he he. But, seriously, opinions must be interesting even if they’re not right. I mean, that’s the whole point of having them, isn’t it? And who gets to decide what’s right, anyway? No human has that authority. Bleh.

Wordsworth’s nice enough. You’ve never read Austen?! I envy you! (Trust me, her works suck!)

Coelho — I didn’t like his works much. He’s as hopeless and overrated as Chetan Bhagat (if Bhagat can be called a writer).

@ Vasudha:
Well, I never said anything about approving of the rightness of rights and the wrongness of wrongs. Nope. In fact, I loooove Wilde.

Of course, that’s the definition of ‘opinion.’

And as to rights and wrongs, here’s what I have to say:
Rights and Wrongs are majestic concepts. They are independent of time and space. They hold good for any age and any nation and any person. They are the compass needles and signposts which tell people of the right directions to take in every situation. They are infallible concepts. In other words, they are too good to be true. Too utopian, too romantic, to actually exist.

(Hmm.. That’s nice.. Gonna use it somewhere..)

Lol.. Won’t touch Austen then.. And Bhagat – never got past a few pages.

@Kishore:

“[...] In other words, they are too good to be true. Too utopian, too romantic, to actually exist.

That’s totally cool! That’s so wonderful, you should post it to your blog. :)
