Sweet bird,
What a pleasant surprise!
Did you fly so far from home to visit me?

Sweet bird,
Come, let’s sing a song-
Joy rides upon this cool wind.

Sweet bird,
You must be tired due to travel;
Stay, while I run and fetch you food.

Sweet bird,
Why don’t you eat?
Why rest you upon the Earth?

Sweet bird,
What a lovely thing you are!
Pure white, with a red bosom.

Sweet bird,
Why don’t you talk to me?
Do you not wish to be my friend?
